What size skip do I need?February 26, 2016
When you’re looking to hire a skip, choosing the right size for your project is important to ensure it can accommodate how much waste you will need to store, and to know that it will fit on your premises.
Here at One Waste Clearance, we provide skips in a range of sizes to suit every project, whether it’s domestic or commercial, so we’ve compiled a guide to help you decide what size skip you will need when clearing out waste.
4 yard skip
4 yard skips are the smallest size on offer, holding the equivalent waste of approximately 30-40 bin bags. This size is perfect for smaller projects such as garage or house clear outs, where you know you will accumulate more waste than you can take to the tip in a car, but do not need a full size skip for the work.
6 yard skip
6 yard skips are often referred to as builders skips, and are one of the most popular sizes for medium sized renovation projects. This size skip is ideal for a larger kitchen refit, or if you need to clear out large items of furniture. This skip will hold approximately 50 – 60 bin bags or the equivalent amount of waste.
8 yard skip
This large skip is ideally used for heavy construction waste such as soil, concrete or rubble, but can also be used for large domestic projects such as re-fitting several rooms at one time. If you are carrying out larger domestic work or your commercial site is undergoing a refit or large renovation, this may be the ideal size skip for you.
10 yard skip
If you are carrying out a house clear-out with a lot of large items of furniture to dispose of, the 10 yard skip may be the best size. This skip is ideal for house renovations, where waste such as sofas, wardrobes, and any larger items of furniture need to be cleared.
12 yard skip
This is the largest skip on offer, for large building works and house clearance waste. Due to weight restrictions, this size skip should not be used for heavy waste such as concrete and rubble, but instead is more ideally suited for house clearance waste or office refits.
